The success story of this Sotkamo based enterprise began in 1971, the year the company was founded and started to utilise bog forests. A double-sided ditcher, invented by the founder of the company, Reino Meriläinen, was the original inspiration behind the current focus on peat production machinery design. Unprejudiced and fervent product development made Suokone into a pioneer in its field – nowadays the company’s products cover the entire peat production chain, ranging from bog clearing to the production of sod peat and milled peat.
in the 1990s, a new success product rose alongside traditional peat machinery, namely, the crusher. This multifunction device opened up worldwide markets to Suokone. Today, Suokone machinery is in use in all continents, and the company is regularly supplying its products to more than 20 countries. This nationally acclaimed engineering workshop has won many invention and enterprise related prizes.
As well as experiencing success, Suokone has also encountered the uncertainties of the recession. Ad-versities have taught the company to be ready for new ideas at all times, and develop, together with their customers and joint venture partners.

Sales of machinery and spare parts
In Finland, the sales of machinery mainly takes place directly from the factory to end users. In this way, we have direct contacts to the field, and when necessary, we can quickly react to changes in the environment.
Abroad we sell our machines and spare parts mainly through our importers, in 20 countries. In special projects we deliver machines also directly to the end users.
Product development
The product development of Suokone Ltd is based on customer orientation. Direct contacts to the end users of our products guarantee the access to necessary information for the purposes of product development. Our large product range requires continuous maintenance and development as the operating environment and requirements continuously change.
We have received countless ideas and suggestions for improvements for our products from our customers, and most of these have been implemented in good co-operation with our customers.
Our designers make use of the best software and equipment in the necessary design work. During our nearly 50 operating years, we have gathered an archive with more than 50,000 workshop drawings, which forms quite a large databank for the design of new products and for the maintenance of active products.

Production
The machinery production of Suokone Ltd is very versatile: the work stages performed at our factory include preprocessing of steel, machining, welding, assembling and painting. Our production personnel has a long experience in the field, and they are professionally skilled. In welding, we also use robot welding, and in machining, we utilise NC machinery. Our manufacturing programme also includes special gear systems and hydraulic cylinders. Our suppliers and subcontractors are also professionals in their fields, and together, we form a functional and high-quality manufacturing chain. We do some subcontracting for other enterprises, and we are happy to offer our high-quality manufacturing skills to enterprises in the field.
